Limerick

In Ireland we also visited Limerick, which has a great old castle, named for the twelfth-century King John (the bad king in the Robin Hood stories). The best part of the visit was that we got to climb the walls and old watchtowers.

In the castle yard there was a stockade in which mommy got stuck for a while.

I found the small stones on the ground more interesting, though.

The castle visitor center had life-size models of King William & Queen Mary, after whom our home university is named. They were behind the sieges of Limerick in 1690 and 1691. We also visited the "treaty stone" on which the treaty ending that war was supposedly signed. It's just a big stone; too big to pick up, so I didn't find it very interesting.
